Description
- Additional information
This is a cast iron buttplate in the Virginia and North Carolina mountain rifle style, for longrifle building and restoration.
Supplied undrilled and as cast, ready to be draw-filed, fitted and drilled to your stock.
Included: Buttplate only, the exact part pictured. No screws.
Dimensions:
- 4-5/8″ long overall
- 1-7/16″ at the widest point
- Tang 3″ long by 1″ wide
Fitting: Cast iron buttplates are supplied oversize and require filing and inletting to fit. This is builder’s work — if you are not comfortable shaping and inletting a buttplate, have a gunsmith or stockmaker do it.
Please note: Buyer is responsible for verifying correct fit for their specific firearm. Installation should be performed by a qualified gunsmith. Please review all photos, as they are part of the description and show the actual item you will receive.
Condition: Unfinished cast iron buttplate in as-cast condition, undrilled. The original casting texture is present throughout, matte and slightly grainy, with no machining, filing or polishing. Even dark grey with a faint brown cast and light surface oxidation, no active rust or pitting. Crescent butt and return tang cleanly formed with no visible chips or cracks. A step and faint seam line where the tang meets the body are consistent with the casting process. No screw holes drilled and no fitting work done — a builder’s blank requiring drilling, fitting and finishing.
