Description
The Weatherby Vanguard Obsidian is a purpose-built bolt-action hunting rifle chambered in 7mm-08 Remington, offering Weatherby’s renowned SUB-MOA accuracy guarantee in a rugged, weather-resistant package designed for hunters who want a no-nonsense centerfire rifle ready for optics right out of the box.
At the heart of the Obsidian is a 22-inch cold hammer forged barrel finished in a traditional blued treatment, profiled in a 2 contour and factory-threaded at the muzzle to accept a suppressor or muzzle device. The barrel is paired with a blued, drilled and tapped stainless steel receiver that provides a solid mounting platform for scope bases and rings, while the bolt action features a classic dual-lug design with an M16-style extractor for reliable case extraction in the field.
Shooters benefit from a precise adjustable two-stage match trigger and a traditional 3-position safety, delivering a crisp, predictable let-off and the ability to safely cycle the action with the bolt locked open. The rifle carries a 4+1 capacity, making it well-suited for predator and mid-size game hunting, as well as all-purpose field use where a fast-handling centerfire rifle is preferred.
The black Monte Carlo synthetic stock is molded with a classic American profile, providing a comfortable cheek weld, weather-resistant durability, and excellent stability from field positions and the bench. With an overall length of 42 inches and a weight of 7.40 lbs, the Obsidian balances quickly off-hand and shoulders naturally from sticks or a benchrest. The action is topped with no iron sights and is drilled and tapped for scope mounting, so the rifle ships ready to accept your favorite optic. A 1:9.5-inch twist rate stabilizes a broad range of 7mm-08 bullet weights for both hunting and target use.
Backed by Weatherby’s SUB-MOA guarantee, the Vanguard Obsidian delivers the accuracy, reliability, and timeless styling that have defined the Vanguard line for decades – a capable bolt-action hunting rifle built for the field.
