This is a Colt Bisley hammer assembly with firing pin and stirrup.

The Bisley made its debut at the 1894 British Commonwealth Championship Match at Bisley, England, and more than 40,000 were built by Colt between 1894 and 1915. The pattern has been reproduced since by Uberti, Pietta and USFA, so a Bisley hammer may be original or later production.

Origin: Not identified. This hammer has a pinned firing pin, as on the original Colt pattern. Sold as shown; please judge from the photographs.

Condition: Hammer assembly complete with firing pin and stirrup, both retained by their cross pins and intact. Surfaces are an even grey with scattered small pits across both sides and traces of heat colouring — straw, blue and violet — remaining in places. The checkered spur is sharp and fully defined with no rounding or flattening from use. Hammer notches are present and cleanly cut with no visible chips, rounding or peening at the edges. The pivot hole is round and unelongated. The firing pin nose is intact with no mushrooming, and the pin moves in its slot. Machining marks remain visible on the flats and in the notch area. A small stamped mark on one side is shallow and not clearly legible. No cracks, bends or repairs visible.
