  • Additional information

This is the Smith & Wesson 59 Series Sear, factory part number 6320, stainless, for the S&W Model 59 9mm double action automatic pistol.

S&W changed this sear number repeatedly across the auto pistol line while the surrounding design stayed put. The Model 59 shares its five-piece sear group — sear, pin, release lever, spring and spring retainer pin — with guns built more than a decade later, but the sear itself carries a different number in the 439 and 539, a different one again in the 469, and an earlier one in the first Model 39 and 59 production. Match the number or match the part. The layout won’t tell you which you have.

Included: Sear only, the exact part pictured.

Fits: Confirmed against the factory Smith & Wesson Model 59 parts list, S&W No. 5121A, Rev. 2/78, on which part 6320 is the sear.

  • Overall length: 1.150″
  • Widest width: .385″
  • Narrow width: .372″
  • Pin hole: .102″

The body is stepped rather than a constant width across its length, which is the quickest visual check against the sear in your pistol. This part number is cataloged as covering a range of models across the 39 and 59 families, but we have verified it only against the Model 59 sheet and make no claim beyond that.

Does not fit: Model 439 and 539 pistols, which take sear 6927. Model 469 pistols, which take sear 6998. Early Model 39 and Model 59 pistols using the sear plunger design, which take sear 6113 with sear plunger 6114, plunger pin 6115 and sear spring 6116 — if your gun has a sear plunger, this is not your part. Does not fit any S&W revolver; revolver lockwork shares no parts with the auto pistols.

Markings and finish: This sear is stainless and carries no number stamp. Stainless and blued examples of this part number are cataloged separately, as are unmarked and number-stamped sears. Match the sear you removed on both counts rather than assuming this one substitutes.

Fitting: This is a fire control part and requires gunsmith fitting. The sear works against the sear release lever, which is itself hand-fit and filed to the individual gun. After installation, function check thoroughly with dummy rounds before live fire. Watch for hammer follow as the slide closes, doubling, and failure of the sear to reset between shots. Do not load the pistol until it passes a full function check in both double and single action.

Please note: Buyer is responsible for verifying correct fit for their specific firearm. Installation should be performed by a qualified gunsmith. Please review all photos, as they are part of the description and show the actual item you will receive.

Condition: Uniform matte silver-grey surface throughout with visible machining marks on the flat faces — as-machined rather than polished. No rust, pitting or staining. The pivot hole is round and clean with crisp edges at both openings. The stepped engagement end shows defined corners and no visible rounding, chipping or deformation. No number stamp on any face shown. Light shadowing inside the milled slot is surface only.
