This is the Ruger Loading Gate, part no. R53A, blued, for the Old Model Single-Six revolver.

Old Models are the three-screw guns Ruger built before 1973, identified by the three screws across the frame. The New Models that followed use a transfer bar and a two-pin frame, and are a different design.

Sold as damaged. The stud on this gate is bent. Whether it can be straightened is a question for a gunsmith, and this one is priced as a repair candidate or a parts-box spare rather than as a serviceable gate. Buy it on that basis.

Safety note: Old Model revolvers have no transfer bar and can fire if the hammer is struck with a round under it. Ruger has long offered a free conversion to the transfer bar system for these guns. Unless yours has been converted, carry it with the hammer down on an empty chamber.

Fitting: The loading gate closes the loading port and, on these revolvers, works with the action. A gate that is bent or incorrectly fitted may not close flush, may not hold shut, or may bind the cylinder. Given the condition of the stud on this one, have a gunsmith assess it before any attempt to fit it, and function check the revolver with it empty before loading.

Condition: Used loading gate with intact dark blued finish on the contoured face and light wear on the edges. No rust or pitting on the body. The stud is bent, with the bend visible at the base where it leaves the hinge, and shows bright wear and tool marks along its length. The hinge lug is intact with no cracking, and the gate face is undistorted.
