This is the Beretta BM59 Bolt Catch, also called the bolt stop, marked PB BM 59, for the Italian Beretta BM59 in 7.62 NATO. It holds the bolt to the rear when the magazine runs dry.
PB is Pietro Beretta’s factory mark, so this is Italian Beretta production rather than a later copy or a substitute part — worth knowing on a rifle most often encountered in the United States as a parts-kit build. The same PB mark turns up on the M1 Garand components Beretta produced.
The BM59 is a Garand rechambered for 7.62 NATO and fitted with a detachable 20-round magazine, and early production used US-made M1 parts. The bolt catch is one of the pieces that came with the magazine change: an M1 Garand holds its bolt open on the follower and has no equivalent part.

Does not fit:
- M1 Garand — no bolt catch of this type, and this part will not function in one.
- M14 and M1A — a different hold-open arrangement; the BM59 catch will not work correctly in them.
Fitting: Once fitted, check that the bolt locks back on an empty magazine and releases cleanly, and that it does not hold the bolt with rounds still in the magazine, before firing the rifle.

Condition: Matte dark finish, even and nearly complete, with only light handling marks on the shaft and faint edge wear on the rear lug. The serrations on the thumb piece are crisp, and the “PB BM 59” markings on the head are sharp and fully legible. The pin hole is clean, and the shaft is straight.
