This is the H&R Sear for the Harrington & Richardson .22 rimfire bolt actions — the Pioneer 750 and 765, Plainsman 865 and 866, and Fieldsman 852.
H&R built this bolt-action family from 1949 into the 1980s, and what separates the models is mostly feed and furniture: the Pioneer is a single shot, the Fieldsman feeds from a tube, the Plainsman from a box magazine, and the rest is stock shape and finish. The action underneath is shared, which is why one sear covers a single shot, a tube gun and a clip gun.
Worth knowing if you are diagnosing: on these rifles the trigger must be pulled to release the sear before the bolt will withdraw. A bolt that will not come out is a common symptom of a damaged or mispositioned sear, and it is one of the first things to check.
Included: One of the sears pictured. Sold individually.
Fits:
- Harrington & Richardson 865 Plainsman
- Harrington & Richardson 750 Pioneer
- Harrington & Richardson 765 Pioneer
- Harrington & Richardson 852 Fieldsman
- Harrington & Richardson 866 Plainsman, the Mannlicher-stocked version of the 865
Not verified: We have not compared this against the Sahara 755 and 760, the Lynx 800, the 751 Pioneer or the Ultra Wildcat 317, which are cataloged as separate models. Compare against the sear in your rifle before ordering for any of them.
Fitting: This is a fire control part and should be fit by a qualified gunsmith. Compare the engagement notch, the hole and the overall profile against the sear coming out of your rifle before installing. Once assembled, function check on an empty rifle before loading: confirm the striker holds when the bolt is closed and when the rifle is bumped, that the trigger releases cleanly and resets, that the bolt withdraws normally when the trigger is pulled, and that the safety functions in both positions. Watch for the striker following the bolt down and for failure to hold at cock. Do not load the rifle until it passes.
Please note: Buyer is responsible for verifying correct fit for their specific firearm. Installation should be performed by a qualified gunsmith. Please review all photos, as they are part of the description and show the actual item you will receive.
Condition: Appears unused. Even matte gray-black phosphate finish across both pieces with no thinning, rust, pitting or chips. The engagement notch is sharp-cornered with no rounding, peening or bright contact tracks — the specific observation is that the friction surfaces carry no wear at all, which is what separates these from a pulled service part. Edges are crisp, the hole is round with clean bore walls, and both pieces are straight and true.
