This is the Savage Stevens release housing, factory part 76-182, sold as a partial assembly together with both detent levers, the detent plunger and the release spring.

One parts group runs the length of this action family, from the early Savage 6 and Stevens 87 through the 60, 90, 980 and Springfield 187 series, and across both feed systems — the tubular magazine rifles and the clip magazine 7, 85 and 57. Savage, Stevens and Springfield were three labels on the same guns out of Chicopee Falls, Springfield being the economy brand, which is why one part number covers all three names.

Included: Release Housing 76-182, Detent Lever Right 76-44R, Detent Lever Left 76-44L, Detent Plunger 76-47, Release Spring 76-189. Sold together, not separately. The exact parts pictured.

Not included: the factory also sold a complete Release Housing Assembly under No. 6-760. This is a partial assembly, not that one — the release lever 76-184, release plunger 76-187, housing screws 76-165, detent lever pin 76-46 and the detent plunger springs 76-49 and 76-68 are separate parts and are not included here.

Condition: Used, assembled as pictured. The housing holds most of its dark factory finish. Finish is worn away to bare steel on the rear right side from previous fitting, with light scuffing elsewhere. No corrosion. The housing is straight, both mounting tabs flat and unbent, and the tab holes round and unwallowed. Both detent levers are in place and unbent, the detent plunger moves in its bore, and the release spring is even with no crush or set.
