This is the Mauser 98 ejector spring and bolt stop cover, the one-piece type.
The ejector box does two jobs. One spring pushes the ejector into the groove at the front of the bolt so it strikes the case head. Another returns the box against the receiver after the bolt is pulled or replaced. On most rifles both are the same part — a flat leaf lying along the outside of the box with a smaller leaf worked into its back face serving as the ejector. That is what this is.
Some rifles use a two-piece arrangement instead, with a separate stamped spring held inside the box for the ejector and the outer spring doing nothing but closing the body. That type is far less common, and there is no way to tell which your rifle has without taking the bolt stop apart.
This is the part to replace when the ejector leaf snaps. The bolt stop body carries the last two digits of the rifle’s serial number, so renewing the spring keeps a matching gun matching, where fitting a replacement bolt stop would not.

Compare against: other 98-pattern rifles including the Czech vz.24 and Yugoslav M48 share the same bolt stop layout. We have not confirmed this spring against them, so match on features before ordering.

Fitting: The spring is dovetailed into the box and has to be driven out toward the muzzle end with the box properly supported. This is work for a gunsmith. Once fitted, confirm the ejector returns under spring pressure, that the bolt stop closes against the receiver, and that the rifle ejects reliably before it is loaded.
