This Mossberg 500 trigger is the fire control component that pivots in the trigger housing to release the sear. Factory part 1577.

This is the original trigger for the 500. Mossberg’s early parts list carries 1577 across the whole line — the Model 500, and the 500A, 500B and 500C in 12, 16 and 20 gauge. Later production moved to a different trigger for the 12 and 20 gauge guns, but 1577 stayed current for the .410 throughout. So this part serves two buyers: anyone with an early gun in any gauge, and .410 owners regardless of vintage.

Included: One trigger, the exact part pictured.

Fits:

  • Mossberg 500, 500A, 500B and 500C — early production, 12, 16 and 20 gauge
  • Mossberg 500 in .410 bore, blued, including Persuader and Cruiser variants
  • New Haven 600ET, .410 bore

Does not fit: later 12 and 20 gauge guns, which use 7263; nickel-finish guns, which use 7684; or parkerized guns, which use 7262. Finish matters here — a nickel or parkerized gun takes its own trigger. Compare against the trigger you are removing before ordering, since the part number is the only reliable check.

Fitment and safety: This is a fire control part. Trigger and sear engagement determines whether the gun fires when it should and, more importantly, whether it fires when it should not. Have a qualified gunsmith fit this and function-check the trigger group before the gun is loaded. If the hammer follows the bolt, if the trigger fails to reset, or if the gun fires on closing the action, stop immediately and do not shoot it.

Please note: Buyer is responsible for verifying correct fit for their specific firearm. Installation should be performed by a qualified gunsmith. Please review all photos, as they are part of the description and show the actual item you will receive.

Condition: Matte gray finish, even and unbroken, with no rust or pitting — a light diagonal scratch on the flat face and fine factory grinding lines are the only marks on it. Both pin holes are round and unelongated, the squared tab at the top of the forward arm is crisp with no rounding or peening, and the part is flat and true. No bright wear on any working face, so it presents as little used. Sear engagement can’t be judged from a photograph, so this one wants a gunsmith’s inspection and a full function check before live fire.
