This is a British-made Lee Enfield Sear for the SMLE No.1 Mk III, marked DP.
DP stands for Drill Purpose. British and Commonwealth armouries applied the marking to rifles withdrawn from live firing and issued for drill and training instead. Parts stripped from those rifles carry the mark with them. The reason a given rifle was condemned is rarely recorded on the part, and a DP marking does not by itself mean this sear is worn or defective — but it does mean it came out of a rifle that was taken off the firing line.
Buy this part accordingly. It suits a drill purpose or display build, or a spares box. If you intend to fit it to a rifle you will shoot, have a gunsmith inspect and fit it and function check the rifle before loading.

Fitting: The sear holds the rifle at full cock and releases it when the trigger is pulled. This is a fire control part and should be fitted by a gunsmith. A sear that is worn, chipped or incorrectly mated can produce a light or creeping release, failure to hold at cock, or discharge on closing the bolt. After installation, function check with dummy rounds or an empty chamber before loading: verify it cocks and holds, that the trigger releases cleanly and resets, that the safety holds, and that closing and working the bolt does not release the sear.

Condition: Used sear in a dark gray steel finish, with original machining marks visible along the flats and light wear on the raised edges. No rust or pitting. Both arms are straight and true with no bends, the pivot hole is open with no elongation, and the sear nose is complete with no chipping or visible rounding.
