- Additional information
This Mauser front sight blade measures .242 in. high with a .213 in. dovetail width at the base.
Front blade height is the coarse adjustment for elevation on a rifle with a fixed rear sight. A taller blade moves the group down; a shorter one moves it up. Shooters replace blades to correct a rifle that shoots high with the ammunition they actually use, which is common on military Mausers regulated at the factory for a heavier or faster service load than anything sold today. Because the correction depends on sight radius and zero distance, buyers shop by dimension rather than by rifle model.
Included: The front sight blade shown.
Measurements:
- Blade height: .242 in., measured from the top of the dovetail base to the top of the blade
- Dovetail width: .213 in. at the base, the widest point
Fitment: The dovetail width is what determines whether this fits, not the model name on the receiver. Mauser front sight dovetails vary between military contracts, and gunsmith-installed sporter bases add more variation still, so measure your rifle’s dovetail across its widest point and compare it to .213 in. before ordering. Blades are fitted, not dropped in — expect to drift it in from the correct side, and expect to stone or file for a snug fit. If your existing blade was measured a different way than described above, the numbers won’t be comparable.
Please note: Buyer is responsible for verifying correct fit for their specific firearm. Installation should be performed by a qualified gunsmith. Please review all photos, as they are part of the description and show the actual item you will receive.
Condition:
Used. Dark finish largely intact with light thinning at the edges and scattered handling marks. No rust or pitting. Blade square and undamaged, no chips at the top edge. Dovetail foot clean with no burring or peening from fitting. See photos.
