This is the Smith & Wesson Cylinder Stop, new old stock, for K, L and N frame double-action revolvers of the older production, roughly 1954 to 1988.
The cylinder stop rises through the frame window into the notches on the cylinder, locking each chamber in line with the barrel as the hammer falls. It is also what leaves the turn line — the ring worn around the cylinder of nearly every revolver that has seen use. The same stop serves all three frame sizes; J frame revolvers use a different part.
These are unfitted parts and measure approximately .106 inch across the stop, at the wide end of the range these were made in. Measurement is given as a guide, not a specification. An unfitted stop gives a gunsmith material to work with, so this is the one to choose if your gun needs a wider stop or you don’t yet know what it needs.

Does not fit: J frame revolvers, which use a different cylinder stop.
Fitting: Smith & Wesson cylinder stops are fitted parts rather than drop-in replacements — expect a gunsmith to fit this one to your gun. A stop that is worn, short or incorrectly fitted shows up as a cylinder that fails to lock before the hammer falls, unlocks under recoil, or rises early and cuts a heavy drag mark. After fitting, check with the gun empty that the stop drops clear as the cylinder starts to turn and rises into the notch on every chamber, in both single and double action, slowly and at speed.
