Description
- Additional information
This Wolff extra power hammer spring is a 17 lb coil mainspring rated above the 14 lb Ruger factory standard, for double action revolvers built on the GP-100 pattern.
W.C. Wolff Company has been making aftermarket firearm springs longer than anyone else in the trade. An extra power hammer spring is the fix for light primer strikes — a revolver that has been over-tuned with reduced power springs, one running hard military or magnum primers, or an older gun whose original mainspring has taken a set. It also shortens lock time. The trade-off is a heavier double action and single action pull, so this is the opposite direction from an action job.
Included: One 17 lb extra power hammer spring, Wolff stock number 17617. The hammer strut, strut seat, and trigger return spring are not included and are reused from your revolver.
Fits:
- Ruger GP-100 series, centerfire only
- Ruger SP-101 series, centerfire only
- Ruger Super Redhawk
Wolff lists one hammer spring across all three of those model families.
Fitment: Will not fit .22 LR models — the GP-100 .22 and SP-101 .22 use a different spring. Will not fit the standard Redhawk, which uses a longer mainspring that also serves as the trigger return spring. Security-Six, Service-Six, and Speed-Six revolvers use a 16 lb factory mainspring and Wolff does not catalog a 16; owners commonly substitute from this family, but strut geometry differs on the Six series and preload should be checked before you count on it. The hammer spring is an ignition-critical part. Install by a qualified gunsmith and function check with live ammunition — not dry fire — before the revolver is carried or used for defense.
